Biography

Elizabeth Papp Kamali is a Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, where she teaches courses in criminal law and English legal history. Her research primarily focuses on the history of medieval English common law, with a particular interest in early criminal trial juries. Current projects include studies on concepts of doubt and proof in thirteenth- and fourteenth-century English law, alongside investigations into medieval understandings of the effects of intoxication on legal responsibility and the influence of Roman and canon law on the early development of common law. Professor Kamali has published works including 'Felony Guilty Mind: Medieval England' in the Studies in Legal History series by Cambridge University Press. She completed her Ph.D. in History at the University of Michigan and holds both an A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College and a J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. Prior to her academic career, she worked at Orion Consultants, advising Wall Street broker/dealers on their relationships with institutional investors and also volunteered as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in foster care.
