Biography

Elizabeth Lowenhaupt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and Pediatrics at Brown Alpert Medical School, as well as a Clinician Educator. She is a Pediatrician and Psychiatrist with a specialization in Child Adolescent Psychiatry, based at Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children's Hospital. Dr. Lowenhaupt has extensive experience in clinical work within child welfare and juvenile justice settings, currently serving as the Consulting Medical Psychiatric Director at the Rhode Island Training School, which is the state's juvenile correctional facility. She represents the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on the Board of the National Commission on Correctional Health Care and serves as the Chair of the Juvenile Health Committee. Previously, she practiced on the Children's Inpatient Unit at Bradley Hospital and at Harmony Hill School, Inc., a residential treatment facility and therapeutic school for boys with behavioral disorders. She has played a significant role in training future medical professionals, having served as the Associate Program Director for the Child Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and co-directed the Brain Behavior Course for preclinical medical students, along with the Clinical Neurosciences Clerkship for third-year medical students. Dr. Lowenhaupt completed her Combined Training Program in Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Child Adolescent Psychiatry at Brown University in June 2007, after receiving her medical degree from the University of Missouri and her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science and Public Policy from Harvard College, graduating magna cum laude.
