Biography

Elizabeth McCracken is a Professor and the James Michener Endowed Chair at the University of Texas at Austin's College of Liberal Arts. She earned her M.F.A. from the University of Iowa in 1990. McCracken is an accomplished author of story collections, including 'Here’s Hat What’s Hurry' (Turtle Bay, 1993) and 'Thunderstruck' (The Dial Press, 2014), the latter of which won the Story Prize. Her novels, 'Giant’s House' (The Dial Press, 1996)—a finalist for the National Book Award 1996—and 'Niagara Falls' (The Dial Press, 2001), showcase her diverse narrative abilities. Additionally, she published a memoir titled 'Exact Replica Figment Imagination' (Little, Brown, Company, 2008). McCracken has received numerous grants from prestigious organizations such as the Michener/Copernicus Foundation, Fine Arts Work Center, National Endowment for the Arts, Guggenheim Foundation, American Academy in Berlin, and the Radcliffe Institute. She was recognized as one of Granta's 20 Young American Novelists.
