Biography

Elizabeth Sommers is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and a Senior Acupuncturist and Researcher in the Integrative Medicine and Health Disparities Program at Boston Medical Center. She holds a PhD and MPH from Boston University School of Public Health and a BS from the University of Wisconsin Madison. Her research interests include acupuncture, detoxification related to substance use disorders, health economics, and treatments for individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. She has authored the book "Acupuncture Adjuvant Treatment HIV/AIDS" published in 2014 and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine. Furthermore, she co-edited special public health issues in various journals and has contributed to the American Public Health Association’s Section on Integrative, Complementary, and Traditional Health Practices. Dr. Sommers is also known for her public health advocacy and her unique contribution to health disparities through acupuncture and integrative medicine.
