Dr. Elizabeth Trott

Biography

Elizabeth (Betty) Trott is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Toronto Metropolitan University, specializing in social and political philosophy, human rights, race, and multiculturalism. She holds a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Toronto, a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo, and a B.Ed from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' College. Trott's research interests include aesthetics, philosophy of literature and film culture, and metaphysics, with a focus on the works of Kant and Hegel as well as 19th-century philosophy. She has published extensively in Canadian philosophy, examining topics such as the discourse of multiculturalism, Canadian political culture, and ethics in idealist philosophy. Trott has been active in presenting her work at various conferences and has served as a keynote speaker on multiple occasions. Her contributions to the field have included guest editing a special issue of the American Review of Canadian Studies and presenting significant ideas on education and philosophy at notable events.
