Biography

Elizabeth E. Van Voorhees is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. Her research interests focus on understanding the mechanisms underlying anger and aggression, particularly in relation to trauma-related psychopathology and posttraumatic stress disorder. She has specific interests in integrating mobile health applications and sensor technology into the therapeutic process, as well as exploring sex and gender differences in the experience, expression, and treatment of anger and aggression associated with trauma. Dr. Van Voorhees has conducted significant research on topics such as moral injury related to trauma and the effects of menstrual cycle on smoking reinforcement among women. Her educational background includes a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University obtained in 2004. In addition to her academic role, she has been awarded several grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Veterans Administration Medical Center for her research.
