Biography

Professor Whitsitt teaches courses in international law dispute resolution at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law. She received her LLM in International Legal Studies from New York University and completed her PhD in 2017. Her PhD research focused on the intersection of trade law and investment arbitration, examining the role adjudicators play in the relationship between international trade and international investment law regimes. She has published and presented extensively in areas of international trade and investment law. Currently, she is a scholar-in-residence at Wilmer Hale LLP and has been recognized with several awards, including the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship and the Marc Lalonde Prize for Excellence in International Commercial Arbitration. Professor Whitsitt is also a member of the Law Society of Alberta and several international law associations, and she serves as co-chair for the Canadian Council of International Law’s Annual Conference. Additionally, she is appointed to Canada’s Roster for NAFTA Chapter 19 Binational Panels and is a Canadian member of NAFTA’s Joint Public Advisory Committee for the Commission on Environmental Cooperation, with a three-year appointment effective from June 2019.
