Biography

Dr. Elizabeth Winzeler serves as the Associate Dean of Innovation Research at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, San Diego. She is also a Principal Investigator and Professor in the Division of Pharmacology and Drug Discovery, along with being the director of translational research at the UC San Diego Health Sciences Center for Immunity, Infection & Inflammation. Her research laboratory focuses on the development of new treatments for malaria, a disease that affects a significant portion of the world's population and leads to millions of deaths annually. Through collaborations with a consortium known as the Malaria Drug Accelerator (MalDA), her lab is dedicated to identifying novel anti-malarial drug targets and advancing early leads in drug discovery. Dr. Winzeler leads a talented team of postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate researchers who contribute to the lab’s mission of eliminating malaria and breaking the transmission cycle between humans and mosquitoes.
