SCOOP Lab focuses on the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, and quantitative sciences to explore adaptive and maladaptive responses to threat, particularly in the context of anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and trauma-related psychopathology. Our research primarily investigates associative learning theory, known as Pavlovian classical conditioning, utilizing a variety of methods to examine brain function, behavior, and individual differences in symptoms, thoughts, memories, emotions, and personality. We aim to enhance the conceptualization, classification, and treatment of psychopathological conditions, with a strong emphasis on the clinical relevance of exposure therapies. Our team is dedicated to contributing to a deeper understanding of how protective mechanisms can transition into pathological states, and we welcome inquiries from prospective research assistants, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows interested in participating in our laboratory studies.
