Biography

Ella Zeldich is an Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology. She earned her PhD in Physiology and Pharmacology from Tel Aviv University in 2009. Dr. Zeldich's research focuses on understanding the mechanisms leading to intellectual deficits associated with Alzheimer’s disease, particularly in individuals with Down syndrome. Her laboratory employs induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to generate cortical organoids and assembloids that model neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative processes related to trisomy 21. Dr. Zeldich utilizes advanced techniques including CRISPR, single-cell multiome profiling, and high-resolution imaging to explore genetic and epigenetic determinants of neuronal health and disease. She is a member of several research centers at Boston University and serves as a primary mentor to graduate students in the Graduate Medical Sciences program. Her ongoing projects include investigating the role of X-chromosome-linked genes in Alzheimer’s-related pathologies and developing strategies to assess neuronal activity in trisomic neurons using innovative model systems.
