Dr. Elle Gerdeman

Biography

Elle Gerdeman is a Design Critic in Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design and a licensed architect. She is the founding principal of CO—G, a design research practice that engages with a variety of projects including residential, public, and social design. Gerdeman’s work emphasizes material systems and speculative construction. She has received recognition from notable publications including Progressive Architect Magazine as a Rising Star and Dwell Magazine. Her research and writings delve into architectural construction, particularly focusing on the cultural implications of materials and maintenance practices. She explores how everyday construction techniques influence architectural meaning, environmental relations, and concepts of repair and care. Prior to founding CO—G, Gerdeman worked in various prestigious architectural firms in the United States and Europe, including OMA and Höweler + Yoon, and has been an instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Gerdeman actively participates in lectures and design reviews across the United States.
