Biography

Ellen Luckins is a lecturer and Leverhulme Early Career Fellow specializing in applied mathematics with a focus on modeling physical industrial problems using partial differential equations (PDEs), continuum mechanics, and asymptotic analysis. Her research interests include heat and mass transfer, electromagnetism, fluid flow, and chemical reactions during phase changes. She also explores applications in cleaning, decontamination, filtration, soil science, and metallurgy, with a particular interest in free-boundary problems and utilizing asymptotic analysis for multi-scale problem studies. Luckins has contributed to significant publications addressing mathematical modeling in complex systems, such as the drying of capillary porous media and the behavior of mushy zones in binary alloys, enhancing the understanding of impurity deposition during evaporation processes. She actively participates in conferences, having presented at various notable events including EFDC2 in Dublin and APS DFD in Salt Lake City.
