Dr. Ellen Maceachen

Biography

Ellen MacEachen is a Professor and Director at the School of Public Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo. She holds an Associate Professor status at both the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the Graduate Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Toronto. Additionally, she serves as a Senior Scientist at the Institute for Work & Health. Her research focuses on designing effective performance work and health systems in the context of rapidly changing economic, social, and technological environments. She has a keen interest in international work disability policy and the health risks associated with new forms of work, such as the gig economy. MacEachen specializes in qualitative evaluation research methods, applying a sociological lens to her studies to address the complex interrelationships between individuals and their broader contexts. She actively supervises graduate students and is currently accepting applications. Her teaching interests include work and health as well as qualitative research methods.
