Ellen MacIsaac received her PhD in Ethnomusicology from University College Dublin, Ireland, where she specialized in the traditional singing style repertoire of Irish English. Upon returning to Canada, she became actively involved in traditional singing in Ottawa, giving guest lectures on sean-nós, the old style of Irish singing, and performing at local céilís and other events. In 2012, she achieved a notable accolade by winning a place in the sean-nós competition at Canada’s Irish-language festival, Oireachtas Gaeilge Cheanada, and subsequently represented Canada at the 2012 Oireachtas na Samhna in Ireland, the Gaelic-speaking festival. She currently performs regularly in Ottawa as a Celtic-style vocalist. Ellen also lectures at the University of Ottawa in the Modern Languages Department as part of the Minor in Celtic Studies and serves as a vocal instructor at Carleton University's Music Department, focusing on Celtic-style singing. In 2007, she founded the Ottawa Celtic Choir, where she acts as the musical director and regularly arranges Celtic music for the choir.
