Dr. Ellie Proussaloglou

Biography

Ellie Proussaloglou, MD, is an Assistant Professor specializing in Breast Surgical Oncology at Yale University. She completed her fellowship in Breast Surgery at Yale University after not only finishing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brown University/Women & Infants Hospital RI but also earning her MD from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. With a background in Biology (Genomics) from Duke University, she is passionate about understanding the policy and financial implications of healthcare. Her research primarily focuses on the experiences of patients facing surgery and high-risk screening, emphasizing the financial aspects of patient care. Dr. Proussaloglou has led interdisciplinary research on survivorship and quality of life issues concerning sexual health after cancer diagnosis, with notable contributions to understanding financial toxicity among BRCA carriers. As the Legislative Chair for District 1 (New England) of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, she actively participates in advocacy for high-risk genetic mutation carriers, especially young women with breast cancer. Her unique training path in surgical oncology intersects with comprehensive reproductive health care, making her acutely aware of the impacts on fertility and sexual health in cancer care.
