Biography

Elliot Leffler is a scholar and artist investigating Applied Theatre as a catalyst for intercultural dialogue and coalition-building. He has led theatre projects with Jews and Palestinians in Israel, Kurdish Arabs and Iraqis, and has engaged racially diverse groups in North America. His book, 'Applied Theatre Intercultural Dialogue: Playfully Approaching Difference,' explores these experiences. His scholarship includes articles in notable journals such as Drama Review, Theatre Topics, Research in Drama Education, Theatre Research International, and Contemporary Theatre Review. Leffler's research has received support from various awards, including the Connaught New Researcher Award and the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship. In his teaching, he covers a broad range of classes including Introduction to Theatre, Social Justice, Acting, and Directing. His productions have stirred dialogue on critical issues such as 9/11 and racial inequity. His educational background includes a PhD in Theatre from the University of Minnesota and an MA in Applied Theatre from the University of Cape Town.
