Elliot Moore II received his bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1998, 1999, and 2003, respectively. His thesis work focused on the study and application of speech analysis techniques for classification and recognition of stress and emotion. His dissertation presented an in-depth analysis of objectively measurable features of speech usable for creating patterns to separate normal voices from those exhibiting emotional disorders like clinical depression. After completing a post-doctoral position for a year, Moore joined Georgia Tech as an assistant professor in the fall of 2004 and was appointed the School's associate chair for Undergraduate Affairs in August 2017. His research continues to use digital speech processing theories for analysis and classification of human vocal patterns to determine various demographics such as dialect and language, as well as characteristics including gender and speaker state like emotion and stress. He has received several distinctions including the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award in 2003 and the NSF CAREER Award in 2006.
