Biography

The Wetland Ecosystems Group focuses on studying wetland ecosystems in the context of landscape alteration due to climate change. This group operates in coastal margin areas that represent complex socio-ecological landscapes, which are increasingly experiencing more frequent and severe hazards because of global climate change. The research addresses critical challenges, such as saltwater intrusion and sea level rise, affecting coastal ecosystems and the livelihoods of communities residing in these areas. A holistic approach is necessary to assess, predict, and mitigate the myriad challenges faced along the coastal margins, integrating knowledge from various disciplines and working across multiple scales. The current research agenda primarily includes natural sciences such as ecology, hydrology, remote sensing, and biogeochemistry, with plans to expand on socio-economic issues in the future.
