Biography

Elliott White Jr. is an Assistant Professor in Earth System Science at Stanford University. As a coastal ecosystem scientist, he studies the effects of saltwater intrusion and sea level rise on vegetation in coastal land margins. His research experience spans the North American Coastal Plain, as well as constructed prairie potholes in Iowa. Elliott employs an interdisciplinary approach, drawing upon ecology, hydrology, biogeochemistry, and remote sensing in his work. His expanding research aims to understand the impacts of saltwater intrusion and sea level rise on humans living in coastal zones. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a focus on Animal Ecology from Iowa State University in 2015, and he completed his PhD in Environmental Engineering Sciences at the University of Florida in 2019. His work is particularly relevant to the challenges posed by climate change to coastal ecosystems.
