Ellis Meng is Professor of Biomedical and Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Southern California, where she has served since 2004. She is the Vice Dean of Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Meng previously held the Dwight C. Hildagarde E. Baum Chair in the Department of Biomedical Engineering from 2015-2018 and was the inaugural holder of the Gabilan Distinguished Professorship in Science and Engineering. She earned her B.S. in Engineering Applied Science, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1997, 1998, and 2003, respectively. Her research focuses on biomedical microelectromechanical systems (bioMEMS), implantable biomedical microdevices, microfluidics, and the integration of multiple modalities in miniaturized devices for biomedical diagnostics and therapy. Meng has received several prestigious awards including the NSF CAREER Award, the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation Early Career Award, and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Technical Achievement Award. She is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, IEEE, ASME, and BMES, and serves on the editorial boards of several journals. Through her work at the Biomedical Microsystems Laboratory at USC, Meng aims to develop novel micro-nanotechnologies for biomedical applications.
