Elnaz Yaghini is an Associate Professor in Biomedical Imaging and Surgical Science at University College London (UCL). She commenced her lectureship at the UCL Division of Surgery & Interventional Science in 2020 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. Elnaz originally qualified in Clinical Medicine before pursuing a PhD in Nanomedicine at UCL, where her research focused on the translational application of preclinical studies. During her PhD, she held a Technology Strategy Board-funded Research Associate position, where she developed novel fluorescent nanoparticles for biomedical applications. Elnaz then worked as a Research Associate on a BBSRC-funded multidisciplinary research programme in collaboration with Bath University, focusing on peptide-based systems for light-triggered delivery of therapeutic macromolecules to cancer cells. In 2017, she was promoted to Senior Research Fellow and secured an Innovate UK Health & Life Sciences grant as a co-investigator to develop functionalized nanoparticles for selective in vivo tumor detection. Currently, Elnaz leads an active grant-supported research programme as a Principal Investigator in intraoperative image-guided surgery.
