Biography

Els Rommes studied public policy and public administration and received her PhD from Twente University in Gender Studies in 2002. She has served as a guest professor in the Faculty of Computer Science and Feminist Studies at Bremen University, and in the Department of Gender and Diversity at the University of Applied Sciences Rhein-Waal in Germany. Her research interests encompass Gender, Youth Care, and Transcultural Mental Health. She has coordinated PhD education at the national STS research school WTMC and has been involved in multiple large-scale national projects and EU funded projects addressing gender inclusion and mental health in diverse populations. Rommes has published extensively on gender, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), youth sexualities, and transcultural mental health care. She is actively engaged as a consultant for various governmental and European research organizations and has held positions on multiple boards and review committees. Her ongoing research projects include improving conditions for irregularized migrants in labor markets across several EU member states.
