Biography

Elsa Arcaute is a Professor at the Complexity Science Centre and a lead fellow at the Alan Turing Institute, focusing on Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London (UCL). She holds a Master's in Mathematics (part III Mathematical Tripos) and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge. Her doctoral research involved Clifford algebras applied to Penrose's twistors and multi-particle wave-functions. At UCL, she contributes to advancing research in urban systems and previously conducted research with the Complexity Networks group at Imperial College, focusing on processes of self-organisation in ant colonies and social systems in general. Her research expertise lies in modelling urban systems through the lens of complexity science, utilizing methods from physics and network science within a multidisciplinary framework. Her primary objective is to gain insights into resilience and sustainability in urban environments.
