Biography

Elsa Rousseau is an Assistant Professor at Laval University since July 2021 in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, and a member of the Nutrition, Health and Society Research Center (NUTRISS). She was hired through a Junior 1 Researcher grant in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital health from FRQS. Her background includes bioinformatics and mathematical modeling. She completed her PhD at Inria, University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, France, and a first postdoc at IBM Almaden Research Center, California, USA, focusing on modeling evolution and epidemiology of viruses. She completed a second postdoc in bioinformatics and machine learning at Laval University. Her research program as a professor focuses on developing AI approaches to illuminate the interrelations between the microbiota, bacteriophages, and nutrition, and their impact on cardiometabolic health. She is particularly interested in developing machine learning tools for predicting bacterial and phage biomarkers of nutrition and host health through omics data analysis.
