Dr. Elspeth Hill

Biography

Elspeth Hill specializes in peripheral nerve and brachial plexus injury, as well as hand and upper limb reconstruction. Originally from the UK, she obtained her medical education and foundational research training at the University of Manchester. Her interest in nerve injury recovery prompted her to pursue training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, where she worked under the guidance of Dr. Susan Mackinnon, a recognized leader in nerve surgery. Additionally, she undertook an international fellowship in Microsurgery and Extremity Reconstruction at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital in Oxford. Dr. Hill has a detailed focus on nerve regeneration and the surgical outcomes of nerve transfers for patients with upper limb paralysis, especially those with spinal cord injuries. Her clinical practice includes treating complex nerve injuries, such as carpal tunnel and thoracic outlet syndrome. A dedicated educator, she earned her PhD in surgical education from Maastricht University and has contributed significantly to research in surgical culture and the representation of women in surgery. Dr. Hill maintains collaborations in medical education and engages with policy work within the American Board of Medical Specialties.
