Biography

Elvis C.S. Chen received his B.Sc. (Honors), M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from Queen’s University, Canada. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Western University in 2023. His graduate research focused on the kinematics of knee total arthroplasty, developing modeling techniques to assist surgeons in refining patient-specific surgical approaches to improve functional outcomes for patients undergoing total knee replacement. In addition to his role in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chen holds cross-appointments in the Department of Medical Biophysics and the Department of Medical Imaging at Western University. He is also an Associate Scientist at the Robarts Research Institute and a faculty member of Western’s Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program. Furthermore, he serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging and is the Chair of the IEEE EMBS London Chapter. Chen is a Limited Engineering Licensee certified by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) and collaborates with medical technology companies. His research interests are in the fields of Computer-Assisted Interventions and Medical Image Computing.
