Biography

Elza Erkip is an Institute Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Tandon School of Engineering at New York University. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Electronics Engineering from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. She then obtained both her Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in the United States. Her research interests focus on information theory, communication theory, and wireless communications. Dr. Erkip has been recognized for her contributions to the field with numerous awards including the NSF CAREER Award in 2001 and the IEEE Communications Society Edwin Howard Armstrong Achievement Award in 2021. She has served as a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Information Theory Society and has held several leadership roles including President of the IEEE Communications Society Communication Theory Technical Committee. Dr. Erkip has also been involved in editorial duties and conference organization, holding positions such as Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Journal of Selected Areas in Information Theory.
