Biography

Emad Tajkhorshid is the Hastings Endowed Chair of Biochemistry at the University of Illinois, with additional appointments in the Departments of Chemistry, Bioengineering, Pharmacology, Biophysics, Quantitative Biology, and Computational Science Engineering. He joined the University of Illinois faculty in 2007, becoming an associate professor in 2010 and a full professor in 2013. He was recognized as a University of Illinois Scholar in 2015 and awarded the Faculty Excellence Award from the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2016. Professor Tajkhorshid leads the NIH Center for Macromolecular Modeling and directs a research group focusing on Computational Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics. He has authored over 300 research articles, achieving an H-index of 78 and has delivered around 200 invited lectures at international conferences and institutions. His research interests include Drug Discovery, Infectious Diseases, Ion Channels, Membrane Biology, Molecular Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Protein Biochemistry, Protein Structure, Signal Transduction, and Virology. His work involves developing and applying advanced computational techniques to characterize biological phenomena, particularly concerning membranes and membrane proteins.
