Dr. Emanual Maverakis

Biography

Emanual Maverakis conducts a broad range of clinical translational research, focusing on immunotherapies for melanoma and T-cell-mediated skin diseases utilizing murine models of autoimmunity. His work is supported by several prestigious grants from organizations such as the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, National Institutes of Health, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research has been published in leading medical journals, particularly the Journal of Experimental Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation. Clinically, Maverakis specializes in the care of patients suffering from severe immune-mediated systemic diseases that affect the skin. He has an extensive background in medicine and dermatology, having obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his MD from Harvard Medical School, both with high honors. He completed his internship at Harvard's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and his residency in dermatology at the University of California, Davis, where he also now serves as a professor.
