Dr. Emanuele Di Angelantonio

Biography

Emanuele Di Angelantonio trained in cardiovascular medicine in Italy and France, and is a registered specialist in general internal medicine with the UK General Medical Council. He completed his MSc in Medical Statistics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2005 and obtained his PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Cambridge in 2009. He was appointed as a University Lecturer in Medical Screening in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care in 2010, where he leads the Clinical Epidemiology Team within the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit. In 2012, Emanuele established a new research group focused on blood donor health, serving as the Principal Investigator for the Donor Health Research project and working as an Honorary Consultant for NHS Blood Transplant (NHSBT). His role expanded in 2015 when he became Programme Leader and Deputy Director of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Blood Transplant Research Unit for Donor Health Genomics at Cambridge. His research interests include cardiovascular disease screening and risk prediction, global vascular health, and blood donor health, with the overarching goal of improving the prevention of cardiovascular diseases through evaluation of biomarkers and risk prediction strategies. Emanuele has contributed significantly to major clinical guidelines and established international research collaborations focusing on cardiovascular risks in low-income countries, particularly through studies in Bangladesh. He plays an active role in various national research policy bodies and serves as a peer reviewer for scientific journals and funding agencies.
