Dr. Emelia Benjamin

Biography

Emelia Benjamin, MD, ScM, is the Robert Dawson Evans Distinguished Professor of Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and serves as the Interim Associate Dean for Faculty Development. She graduated with an AB from Harvard University, attained her MD from Case Western Reserve University, and completed her ScM in Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health. A prominent cardiologist associated with Boston Medical Center, Dr. Benjamin has been continuously funded by the NIH since 1998 and has authored over 800 peer-reviewed publications focusing on genetics, epidemiology, and prognosis of various cardiovascular conditions, particularly atrial fibrillation. She is recognized as an expert in her field and has played significant roles in various research initiatives, including the Framingham Study and as a principal investigator in multiple NIH grants. Her leadership in diversity emphasizes promoting equity and inclusion in cardiovascular medicine, especially among underrepresented groups. Throughout her career, she has received multiple accolades for her mentoring and contributions to education in the medical field.
