Dr. Emelie Fälton

Biography

Emelie Fälton is an Associate Professor in the Bachelor’s Program in Graphic Design Communication at Linköping University. She is the Director of Studies, responsible for the pedagogical development and implementation of the program’s courses. Her teaching focuses on visual culture, visual communication, visual identity, and critical analysis methods, aiming to provide students with an analytical understanding of how visual expressions influence and reflect societal contexts. Fälton's research interests include the phenomena and issues depicted in visual cultures and visual communication. She studies materials from the late 19th century to the present, intending to demonstrate how visual perspectives can enrich the toolbox of humanistic research, offering insights into the visual dimensions of cultural lives. Her notable projects include analyses of the historical depiction of Swedish national parks, the relationship between human and non-human elements as conveyed through art, and the reshaping of visual identity at the Swedish Patent Registration Office through a logo competition in the 1980s. She also manages the TellUs research and development project, which aims to engage children's interest in the planet and sustainable development through innovative visualizations and AI-generated interactive learning tools.
