Biography

Emer Smyth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) and the director of cancer research alliances at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC). She joined CUMC in November 2016 after her tenure as a research associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where she focused on the role of inflammatory lipid mediators in breast cancer and vascular disease. Throughout her career, she has contributed to nearly 50 peer-reviewed research publications, scholarly reviews, and chapters. At HICCC, she oversees the operations of the Celgene Cancer Drug Discovery Consortium and develops large-scale funding initiatives to enhance cancer research and education at Columbia. Smyth’s work aims to increase awareness of the cancer research and care programs at CUMC and to provide mentorship within her department.
