Dr. Emerson Niou

Biography

Emerson S. Niou is a Professor of Political Science at Duke University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987. His research focuses on various aspects of political behavior, including voter preferences and strategic voting. Niou has co-authored several key publications including "Balance Power" (Cambridge University Press, 1989) and "Strategy Politics: Introduction Game Theory" (Rutledge, 2015). His recent work examines topics such as the dynamics of divided government preferences among American voters and the complexities of international alliances in response to external threats. With a strong emphasis on empirical research, Niou has contributed significantly to the fields of electoral studies and political behavior through his various scholarly articles published in notable journals. He was also involved as a Principal Investigator for research grants centered on Taiwan studies and public opinion regarding security and stability in the Taiwan Strait, further showcasing his commitment to exploring contemporary issues within the political landscape.
