Biography

Emi Nakamura is the E. Morris Cox Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. She specializes in monetary fiscal policy, business cycles, and macroeconomic measurement. Nakamura's contributions have earned her membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and recognition for her work as co-director of the Monetary Economics program at the National Bureau of Economic Research. She serves on the Congressional Budget Office’s Panel of Economic Advisers. Her research has garnered prestigious awards including the John Bates Clark medal and the Elaine Bennett Research Prize, as well as grants from the National Science Foundation and the Sloan Research Fellowship. She obtained her PhD from Harvard University in 2007 and holds an A.B. from Princeton University. Prior to joining Berkeley in 2018, she taught at Columbia University’s economics department and business school.
