Emil Reisler is a Distinguished Research Professor in the Biochemistry, Molecular Structural Biology Graduate Program. He received his B.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and his Ph.D. from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. Dr. Reisler conducted postdoctoral research at the Biology Department of Johns Hopkins University. His research focuses on cell motility and the cytoskeleton, particularly how muscle and non-muscle cells convert chemical to mechanical energy through processes mediated by actin and tubulin, as well as various motor proteins. His work seeks to elucidate the contractile mechanisms at molecular levels, studying the structural and dynamic properties of contractile proteins and exploring the structure-function relationships of actin and myosin through a range of experimental techniques including biochemistry, biophysics, and in vitro motility force measurements. At the cellular level, he examines interactions and structural transitions in protein systems and investigates the formation and remodeling of actin filaments by actin-binding proteins, linking these processes to cellular functions.
