Emilia Barakova received her Ph.D. in Mathematics and Natural Sciences from the University of Groningen in 1999, and holds a master's degree in Electronics and Automation Engineering from the Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria. She is currently affiliated with the Department of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology, where she serves as the Head of the Social Robotics Lab and leads the Transdisciplinary Research & Design research cluster. She specializes in embodied social interaction technology and social cognitive robotics, merging artificial intelligence, cognitive sciences, and robotics. Barakova has served as program chair for various conferences and is an Associate Editor for several journals in the field of social robotics.
