Biography

Emiliano Scanu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Laval University. His research focuses on environmental issues and the fight against climate change, particularly in relation to urban public action and sustainable transport and mobility practices. Employing theoretical frameworks from environmental and urban sociology, he seeks to deepen the understanding of the social origins of major environmental problems, including climate change, and to identify the necessary levers to address these issues. His work emphasizes how societies influence climate and how climate, in turn, reconfigures society, particularly institutions, discourses, practices, and spaces. Scanu's research has been published in journals such as Environmental Sociology, Environment & Planning, and Urban Environment. Recently, he co-edited a special issue of the Canadian Journal Urban Research on urban transformations in the era of climate change and co-published a book on transportation controversies in Quebec City. His academic career includes a postdoctoral researcher position at Laval University and INRS - Urbanization Culture Society, and he holds a doctorate in sociology from Laval University. Scanu has been recognized with several awards for his academic excellence and has led various research grants.
