Biography

Emilie Cloatre is a socio-legal scholar whose main research interests lie at the intersection of law and medicine. She is particularly focused on exploring how law and health knowledges shape, and potentially challenge, health inequalities. Her studies span a range of issues, including access to healthcare, pharmaceutical flows, and global inequalities in medicine. With an approach influenced by insights from Science and Technology Studies, socio-legal studies, and legal anthropology, her work has informed qualitative research across various socio-cultural settings. Emilie is currently leading a Wellcome Discovery Award project titled "Between Deception and Dissent: Regulating Unproven, Disproven, Misleading Health-Related Claims," which investigates contested health-related claims regulated by contemporary states and examines the socio-political implications of these strategies. Furthermore, she aims to propose alternative legal models that disrupt longstanding barriers to developing critical knowledge in law, health, and society. Before joining King’s College London, Emilie worked at the University of Kent and the University of Nottingham. She is currently available for PhD supervisions.
