Emilie leads the Cross-cultural Ecology, Education Restoration Lab at Macquarie University (MQ). She is regularly invited to advise and contribute innovative ethical cross-cultural approaches to science. A founding member of the Ecological Society of Australia's Indigenous Engagement Working Group since 2010, she was awarded the ESA Members Service Prize in 2022. Emilie and her team have received several awards for their cross-cultural collaborative work, including the 2017 Eureka Prize for Innovation in Citizen Science and the 2014 Banksia Award for Indigenous Leadership in Sustainability. Emilie completed her Bachelor of Science with Honours at the University of New South Wales and her PhD at the University of Wollongong in 2007. She has a background in Weed Ecology, having completed her Post Doc at Charles Darwin University. Emilie started collaborating with Indigenous researchers at the ECR Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research (CAEPR) at the Australian National University from 2008 to 2012, where she began working closely with Indigenous communities, particularly in Arnhem Land. Her current research focuses on restoring native edible root grounds in collaboration with Dharug and Yolngu colleagues under her ARC Future Fellowship from 2023 to 2027.
