Biography

Emilie Pondeville is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, specializing in virology and mosquito biology. Her long-term research interests focus on understanding the physiological and biological mechanisms of female anautogenous mosquitoes that require a blood meal from vertebrate hosts to reproduce. These mosquitoes serve as vectors for various pathogens, including arthropod-borne viruses and parasites that cause significant diseases in humans and animals. Pondeville is dedicated to developing new strategies to control the transmission of mosquito-borne diseases through innovative approaches, such as the use of transgenic mosquitoes. Her research aims to contribute to the identification of target genes that can manipulate mosquitoes for effective mosquito control programs. She utilizes the resources available at the Centre for Virus Research, such as advanced insectaries and transgenic facilities, to study in vivo interactions between mosquitoes and arboviruses. Through her collaborative work, she explores the molecular mechanisms that influence vector competence and the integrated antiviral responses of mosquitoes to viral infections.
