Biography

Emilie Reas is an Assistant Professor in the Neurosciences at the University of California, San Diego. She completed her undergraduate degree in Cognitive Science at the University of California, Berkeley, in December 2004, and earned her PhD in Neurosciences at UC San Diego in March 2014. Her research interests include the mediating role of blood-brain barrier dysfunction, systemic inflammation, brain microstructure, and memory, particularly in the context of Alzheimer's disease and aging. Reas has received numerous awards, including the Warren Alpert Distinguished Scholars Fellowship from the Warren Alpert Foundation and the Postdoctoral Transition Award from the American Federation for Aging Research. Her ongoing research projects are funded by the NIH and focus on the impacts of COVID-19 on the brain and the mechanisms connecting blood-brain barrier breakdown with neurodegenerative processes. She actively contributes to mentoring in her field and has collaborated with various esteemed colleagues.
