Biography

Emilie Sitzia is an Associate Professor of Cultural Education at Maastricht University and holds a Special Chair at the University of Amsterdam focusing on Word and Image studies. She is also the Comenius Leadership Fellow and the Principal Investigator for a research project on Senses-based Learning, which is funded by NRO. Additionally, she serves on the advisory board for the Koopman collection at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek and is an ambassador for the Illustration Embassy in Amsterdam. Emilie has directed the Master in Arts Heritage program and led the Arts, Media, Culture Research Group at the Aix-Marseille Institute for Advanced Study in France. Her research interests include museum participatory practices, the impact of art on audiences, and interdisciplinary studies of word and image, particularly in relation to the French 19th and early 20th centuries. Emilie's educational background includes studies in France, Germany, and Finland, where she obtained a double major in Art History and French Literature, culminating in a PhD in French Literature and Culture. She has co-edited several volumes and regularly curates exhibitions, contributing to the field of cultural education and museology.
