Dr. Emilie Sitzia

Biography

Emilie Sitzia is an Associate Professor of Cultural Education at Maastricht University and holds a Special Chair at the University of Amsterdam focusing on Word and Image. She is a Comenius Leadership Fellow and Principal Investigator for the NRO funded research project 'Senses-based Learning'. Emilie is also a programme director for the Master's in Arts Heritage and the Scientific Director for the Arts, Media, Culture Research group. Additionally, she serves as co-director of the Word-Image research group at the University of Amsterdam. Her previous appointments include lecturer positions in Abo Akademi University in Finland and assistant professorships at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Emilie has a background in Art History and French Literature and specializes in museum participatory practices, the impact of art on audiences, and interdisciplinary studies of word and image, particularly in the context of the French 19th and early 20th century. Her recent publications and co-edited volumes continue to contribute significantly to the fields of museology and cultural education. She is known for her focus on storytelling, identity, and the interplay of text and images in cultural narratives.
