Biography

Emiline Smith has been a Lecturer in Criminology at the School of Social and Political Sciences, University of Glasgow since 2019. She is a member of various research initiatives including the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research, the UK Blue Shield, the Trafficking Culture Research Consortium, and the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime. Her research focuses on the protection, securitization, and repatriation of cultural and natural resources, particularly within the context of transnational white-collar crime. Emiline's work explores the roles of participants in illicit transnational trades, especially in metropolitan areas commonly referred to as ‘global cities’. Her fieldwork has been conducted across Asia, including Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. She provides advisory support to both governmental and non-governmental organizations on these topics. Emiline has published extensively in academic journals and other media and has obtained funding from several prestigious bodies including the UK Global Challenges Research Fund and the Scottish Government. In addition to her academic work, she authored a children's book titled 'Pema and the Stolen Statue from Dolpa', which teaches readers about cultural heritage through an engaging narrative.
