Biography

Emilio Parrado is the Dorothy Swaine Thomas Professor of Sociology and Director of the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania. He specializes in the study of migration, focusing on the implications for families in sending and receiving areas. His research interests include the Hispanic population in the United States, with a particular emphasis on immigrant adaptation to new regions and the international migration determinants affecting health and family outcomes in both sending and receiving regions. Dr. Parrado employs both quantitative and qualitative methods, utilizing extensive existing datasets, economic statistics, and survey data as well as collecting original ethnographic data to explore the complex relationships between migration, gender, and health risks, particularly for Mexican and Honduran migrants.
