Professor Dr. Emily Callander

Biography

Dr. Emily Callander is a health economist specializing in maternal and women's health. She is a Professor at the Monash Centre for Health Research & Implementation, where she leads the Women’s Economics Value-Based Care research program. With a PhD in Health Economics from the University of Sydney and postdoctoral training at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, Callander’s work encompasses economic evaluations alongside randomized controlled trials and the use of linked administrative data to conduct health service decision-making analyses. She holds multiple NHMRC grants and is a member of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee and several other committees, providing economic advice for health service subsidization. Dr. Callander's research is aimed at improving health equity and efficiency, particularly in maternal health services, and she collaborates with governments and health services to enhance access to quality care. Her work has contributed to the development of national maternity policies and initiatives such as the Safer Baby Bundle and the Normal Birth Strategy. Additionally, her research aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, working towards efficient and equitable healthcare systems.
