Dr. Emily Dove Medows

Biography

Emily Dove-Medows is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, with a research focus on health inequities, racism, and maternal infant health. With over 15 years of nursing and research experience, she has dedicated her career to studying marginalized populations and their health outcomes. Her recent research has explored pregnant Black women's perceptions of neighborhood disorder and discrimination as it relates to health outcomes, specifically looking at preterm birth. Dove-Medows has also contributed to enhancing communication strategies in clinical settings to improve maternal health services. She teaches primarily in the undergraduate nursing program, focusing on maternity care, and has also lectured in graduate programs including Midwifery and Family Nurse Practitioner. In addition to her teaching and research, she is actively involved in professional organizations, serving as Legislative Co-Chair for the Michigan Affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives and as a member of the Michigan Maternal Mortality Review Committee.
