Dr. Emily O Brien

Biography

Emily O'Brien is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences and the Department of Neurology at Duke University, serving as a core faculty member of the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy. Her research focuses on comparative effectiveness, patient-centered outcomes, and pragmatic health systems research, particularly in cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. With expertise in Epidemiology, Pragmatic Clinical Trials, and Clinical Decision Sciences, she has led numerous projects funded by the FDA, NIH, and PCORI. Dr. O'Brien teaches Analytic Methods in the PhD program and has authored over 200 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals covering epidemiologic methods and pragmatic clinical trials. She is known for her roles as an associate editor for Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality Outcomes and as a chair of the AHA QCOR Scientific & Clinical Education Lifelong Learning Committee. Additionally, she is a fellow of the American Heart Association.
