Biography

Emily Price is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge. She has a PhD with distinction from New York University, awarded in 2018. Dr. Price specializes in medieval literature, focusing on French, Occitan, Italian, and Latin texts, particularly song poetry. Her research spans the Middle Ages, from the tenth to the fifteenth centuries, exploring the intersections of literature, music, philosophy, and visual culture. She is currently engaged in a book project, supported by a CRASSH Early Career Fellowship, which draws on insights from medieval philosophy, music theory, queer theory, ecocriticism, and sound studies. This project examines how lamentation in medieval contexts helped individuals navigate life in a world of uncertainty. Additionally, Dr. Price is involved in collaborative projects aimed at broadening the reach of her research and is interested in the role of translation in literary studies. Her teaching includes supervision of first-year French papers and critical and cultural theory, and she contributes to various public engagement initiatives.
